Granular questions about our methodology

How often is data updated?

App Intelligence

  • Data is updated hourly to keep you up-to-date on any category ranking, review, keyword ranking, and all other App Intelligence data. (Note: Google Play Category Rankings are available daily.) 

Store Intelligence

  • Top Apps/Top Publishers
    The newest data is available each day at 12:00 UTC for the Sensor Tower front-end and via API. At this time, data will be populated through two days prior to the current date (e.g. on 7/15, data will be available through 7/13).
    When viewing fixed time ranges (i.e. weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly), data for the entire time range must be available in order to select that time range. 
  • App Analysis/Publisher Breakdown/Store Summary
    The newest data is available each day at 12:00 UTC for the Sensor Tower front-end and via API. At this time, data will be populated through the date prior to the current date (e.g., on 7/15, data will be available through 7/14).

The latest downloads and revenue estimates are subject to change. On any given day, estimates are not yet final for the most recent five days. These estimates may change in subsequent days as more source data is processed and made available for use in our modeling process. 

Ad Intelligence

  • All data is updated daily. The data is available at 00:00 UTC the following day.

The latest share of voice estimates are subject to change. On any given day, estimates are not yet final for the most recent six days. These estimates may change in subsequent days as more source data is processed and made available for use in our modeling process. 

Usage Intelligence

  • Active Users
    Data is updated daily and the most recent data is available at 01:00 UTC two days later. (We will refine and finalize DAU over the following seven days from the initial posting, however these adjustments will be quite small and lessen over the seven day period.)
  • Top Apps
    DAU, WAU, and MAU Top App data is populated after a five-day delay.
  • User Insights
    Demographics and Retention data is populated after a five-day delay.
  • Session Analysis
    Session Count, Session Duration, and Time Spent are updated monthly and available on the second Friday of the following month. 
    Total Time Spent and Total Session Count are updated daily and the most recent data is available at 01:00 UTC two days later. 

App Teardown

  • For App Teardown, we check for both app version updates and app SDK data daily.

Consumer Intelligence

  • Engagement Insights/Cohort Engagement
    Data is updated every Friday at 19:00 UTC.
  • Cohort Retention
    Weekly data is updated every Wednesday at 22:00 UTC. Monthly data is updated on the first Wednesday of the month at 22:00 UTC.
  • Time of Day
    Quarterly data is updated on the first Thursday of the month at 13:00 UTC.
  • Power User Curve
    Weekly data is updated every Thursday at 9:00 UTC. Monthly data is updated on the first Thursday of the month at 9:00 UTC.
  • Churn Analysis
    Weekly data is updated every Thursday at 23:00 UTC. Monthly data is updated on the first Thursday of the month at 23:00 UTC.

Consumer Intelligence data can take up to two weeks to settle as we receive more data. We therefore recalculate the previous two weeks' data when we process new data every week.
