Setting up an Alert
One of the ways you can set up Custom Alerts is by selecting specific apps you are interested in being notified of. (You can also set up alerts to be set for entire Publishers, Categories, or Reports). By setting up Alerts for specific apps, you'll be able to track data on any app and be notified when that app experiences or makes any changes.
App Alerts allow you to select either one app or a multiple set of apps to track any metric Sensor Tower provides. Sensor Tower will enable you to track either the iOS, Android, or unified version of the app to ensure you aren't missing any information. There is no limit to how many apps you'd like to track within one alert, so select as many as you want!
(Example: Alert set for three apps, Clash of Clans, Golf Clash, and Candy Crush for the App Store)
Once you have your apps selected, you'll next choose the metric you are interested in tracking for these apps. Since apps are prone to changes, we track 55 different alert types, including when they're updated, whenever they receive positive or negative reviews, and when they start advertising more, for example. Additionally, you can select an action that allows you to determine what has to happen to this metric for you to be notified.

The different action types change when and what you'll be notified on and are as follows:

- Report: Get a general report on the metric selected to just keep up to date on the metric.
- Change: Get an alert when the metric changes in any way.
- Increase: Get an alert when the metric has an increase.
- Decrease: Get an alert when the metric has a decrease.
- Spike: Get an alert when the metric increases by at least one standard deviation.
- Plummet: Get an alert when the metric decreases by at least one standard deviation.
- First Time: Get an alert when a metric hits a specific milestone
If any of these are confusing, there is an example of what the alert might look like to the right side of the metric and action selector. This way, you can get an idea of precisely what information will be provided after this alert is set.
After selecting the metric and action, you can now configure when you want to be alerted. Would you like to be notified every day? Maybe every week instead? Would you like to be notified when the downloads change by 10% or 50%? This section will allow you to choose the amount the metric has to change for you to be notified and at what cadence you'd like to be notified.
(Example: When there is a change in downloads by at least 10% in the US, and over at least 1000 downloads in the last day, an alert will be sent.)
Once you've completely customized your alert, you can name your alert and decide how you want the alert sent to you or your teams. Here, you can select whether or not you want the alert sent directly to your email. (Note: you cannot enter someone else's email. They will have to set up their own alert.) If you'd like to send this Alert to multiple people, you can also connect your Slack account to send alerts to any public or private slack channel of your choosing. This way, you can easily build one alert and share it with your entire team to stay on top of your apps.

And you're done! 🎉 You've now set up an alert and will be notified of any app change in the market.
Why is this Useful?
With this new alert power, you can easily keep tabs on your own apps and your competitor's apps without having to be ever vigilant. Setting up alerts will notify you about useful information while sifting out those that aren't relevant. This will allow you to save time searching and perform analysis faster.
Some Useful Tactics
- Track your competitors and get notified any time they make an App Update. This way, you can see if they've made any product changes or improvements to their app that you can make to your own.
- Track your own app's downloads to know precisely when you have a spike in downloads and can use that momentum to continue driving downloads to your app with an impromptu ad campaign.
- Additionally, get notified anytime your app is featured in the app store so you can take advantage of the free advertising.
- Track negative reviews going to your app so you can respond to them quickly and ensure your app's rating stays high.
- Be notified whenever your featured reviews change. So if one changes to a negative review, you can try to respond to that specific user and get them to change their review.
- Get notified anytime a competitor starts ranking for new keywords to see if they are going after a new market or a new set of keywords.
