With Rating Analysis, you can analyze daily and cumulative rating averages for an app or group of apps over time. Rating Analysis can be charted by star rating, country or app.
- Country breakdown view is not available for apps in the Google Play Store
- Average Rating chart type is not available in the Star Rating breakdown view
- Charting by Average Ratings will enable the line plot type only
- Total ratings and average ratings of iOS apps may be different from those seen on App Store pages due to rating resets by an app’s developer. Sensor Tower’s ratings take into account an app’s entire rating history.
Star Rating Breakdown
When charting by Star Rating, only Daily Ratings are available as a Chart by type.
The user can select up to five apps to be aggregated in the chart and table for cohort analysis. The chart for this view plots the total 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 star ratings for each day. Hovering over any point in the chart will display a tooltip that shows the % breakdown of each rating value, the total number of ratings, and the average rating for that day.
The table below the chart shows the total and average rating over the selected time period. When only one app is selected, you can use the hyperlinks to go to the app view for the Review Analysis module to view the actual reviews relating to that group of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 star ratings.
Some apps in the Google Play Store may have a negative number of ratings; this is due to Google's removal of certain reviews deemed fraudulent or irrelevant.
Country Breakdown
When charting by Country, both Daily Ratings and Average Ratings are available as a Chart by type only for the App Store (not Google Play).
The Average Ratings chart has another Daily Average option available in the drop down to go along with the All time Average option. The difference is that All-time Average shows total cumulative rating which is displayed in the App and Google Play Store while the Daily Average is the average rating on a daily basis calculated by Sensor Tower.
The country breakdown displays the top nine countries by rating, as well as other (group of all remaining countries) for all these charts by type. As with the Ratings breakdown, the user can select one or multiple apps to be aggregated in the chart and table for cohort analysis.
The table below the chart shows the total and average rating by country over the selected time period. The user can select the hyperlink to go to the app view for the Review Analysis page and be able to view the actual reviews relating to that specific country.
App Breakdown
When charting by App, both Daily Ratings and Average Ratings are available as a Chart by type.
In this view, each selected app gets its own series in the chart, rather than the data being aggregated.
The table below the chart for the App Breakdown shows the total and average rating for each selected app over the selected time period. The user can use the hyperlinks in this table to go to the app view for the Review Analysis module to view the actual reviews relating to that specific app.
Links to Review Analysis
Access the Review Analysis module by clicking on the country, app, or star rating in the table found below the chart. The hyperlinks will maintain the same date range and filters selected.
The link to Review Analysis will only be available when one app is selected in the rating or country view, as it cannot link to more than one app’s Review Analysis page.

- Daily Ratings: Ratings for a specific day.
- Average Ratings (Daily Average): The average of the Daily Ratings.
- Average Ratings (All Time Average): The average based on all-time cumulative ratings.
